Attention seeking vandals paint Stonehenge - Ombligo - 06-19-2024 Two climate protesters who sprayed orange paint on the ancient Stonehenge monument in southern England were arrested Wednesday after two bystanders appeared to intervene and stop them. The latest act by Just Stop Oil was quickly condemned by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as a “disgraceful act of vandalism.” Labour leader Keir Starmer, his main opponent in the election next month, called the group “pathetic" and said the damage was “outrageous.” The incident came just a day before thousands are expected to gather at the roughtly 4,500-year-old stone circle to celebrate the summer solstice — the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Just Stop Oil said the paint was made of cornstarch and would dissolve in the rain. https://www.yahoo.com/news/climate-protesters-arrested-painting-stonehenge-134836794.html It is time to get serious with these criminals - and make no mistake, that is what they are. Multi-year prison sentences may make these idiots rethink their tactics. Attention-seeking narcissists who probably don't give a damn about the planet. In doing this, they also attacked the lichen which grow on the rocks, which are rare and interesting to scholars. Even what grows on Stonehenge is fascinating! Over 70 different species of lichen have been found on the stones, several of which are very rare. Strangely, some are usually only found on exposed coastlines.https://x.com/EH_Stonehenge/status/1768280353871978815 Every time these yahoos do something like this, they alienate more and more people. They are probably being paid by Big Oil to make environmentalism the most hated cause in the UK. Also, although people might think it's funny, this site is a religious shrine for some people. Well, it's against the law to muck about with Stonehenge so they can and should go to jail. If these people had any stones of their own, they would go vandalize an oil tanker or an office of Exxon to get attention, but they are chickenshits who try to ruin art and religious symbols because if they go after Big Oil, Big Oil will have them destroyed. Fuck these guys. Re: Attention seeking vandals paint Stonehenge - hal - 06-19-2024 well said $tevie The guys are probably in it for the hot chicks with wild abandon. They don't listen to "Love Songs From Delilah." I'm sick of them just like most people but I know they're going to apply their DNA level youthful tendencies to "something." In Europe and America, most of our worst problems have been resolved. Not long ago we had our own local famines on both continents for example. Our own Apartheid. Not long ago, they forced guys to go fight wars. If there's one big enough they'll force them again. When everybody is hip and everybody is cool and trying to be fair, then you have to go a step further. If circumstances aren't terrible in your opinion, then there isn't much purpose to you when you feel the urge to "save the world." You get more pure and intolerant. You get more strident and narrowly conditional about what's acceptable to you. If society strays into your territory and adopts some of your concerns, then again, there's no point or purpose to you again. More strident, more intolerant and more narrowly conditional. It's the same thing on both sides of the coin. It becomes a cult. That's why they eventually circle around and join forces against the middle. These idiots have done more harm to the cause than Exxon. People despise them and by extension their cause. They are fast becoming the environmental PETA. Re: Attention seeking vandals paint Stonehenge - Ca Bob - 06-19-2024 I'm strongly concerned about global warming and say this to people whenever I get a chance. I'm also opposed to vandalism of ancient structures, great works of art, and city walls. I don't think that the problem of global warming justifies criminal violence, anymore than I would agree to criminal violence in protest of the outcome of an election. Re: Attention seeking vandals paint Stonehenge - mrbigstuff - 06-19-2024 There's an easy way to help the environment tomorrow: abandon all airplane travel. Well, are you folks serious or not? How about stop heating your homes in winter? You don't want to do that, either? |
