I think I really want to go mobile but need to run FCP studio. anyone using this machine and feeling lack of power? is this the latest gen? am i a fool to go mobile with video?

Yes,

I use FCP studio on new MacBook Pro. Works great -- renders, usability and snappiness, feel same as Powermac G5. Just make sure you have FCP 5.1 to get Universal Binary.
