Seeking resume writer for young web developer - Lemon Drop - 06-26-2024
Seems this was mentioned in an earlier thread but I'm not finding it.
28 year old with strong undergrad record, BS Comp Sci and Math.
Some graduate work.
Worked at AWS several years and did a grad fellowship at a small start-up with Air Force contract, AI related stuff.

Surprised they haven’t used AI to write their resume. My wife used ChatGPT to write a blurb on her website and it was pretty good.

The best advice (usually the only advice) I've given to those writing resumes is to know your market. Who will be reading it and what might they think after a few seconds?
Cover letter: Opening paragraph, then bullet points. Closing with two paragraphs. But for tech jobs, this could be slightly different.
Resume should list all of the possible experience one has esp at a young age with only a handful of jobs.
Appended to the resume: volunteer activities, foreign language abilities, awards and honors, other skills.

Not sure I understand. What’s untruthful about AI? Some people can’t articulate things well, and AI can find the right words to describe something. The statement it came up with for my wife’s website was completely truthful. It was just better than what she had come up with.

A good resume can be the difference between interview and no interview. It's smart to want to hire a professional. AI has no clue what a company looks for in a resume.
The fact that many companies scan resumes for key words and toss out the ones that lack them makes an even stronger case for hiring someone who knows the ins and outs.

Just a potential tool, don't now how far they do free now, but it used to.

Get the keywords right for the applicant tracker, then cross your fingers that you have a friend or two who are competent, experienced hiring managers (find them!). They will know what style resume gets pulled out of the pack after it passes the applicant tracker. Get them to help the structure, format, look...
