my fridge is freezing my food - mrbigstuff - 06-28-2024 I guess that it's better than being too warm, but it's a new fridge (GE) and I can't seem to adjust it so it doesn't freeze the contents. And, yeah, it's basically because of the humidity, but still... Re: my fridge is freezing my food - Tiangou - 06-28-2024 Get a fridge thermometer to help with your adjustments. The goal is 40 degrees towards the front. It will always be colder in the back (and towards the top if your freezer sits above the fridge) and you may need to place your food strategically so that stuff that can freeze without damage sits in the coldest spots. Re: my fridge is freezing my food - special - 06-28-2024 even on the lowest setting it still freezes your food? does it have a digital temperature display? Yeah what he said. Re: my fridge is freezing my food - Speedy - 06-28-2024 It may have a mechanical connection to the freezer that is open too wide. Refrigerators cool from the freezer, not independently. Re: my fridge is freezing my food - JoeH - 06-28-2024 As Speedy mentions, the refrigerator gets its cooling from the freezer section. Most models currently have a fan and a damper in the duct between the two. On low end models that duct is set manually, but other models control it based on the temperature settings. The controller board can be defective or not set up for the correct model as manufacturers have used the same board for several different models. Or one of the temperature sensors could be bad. Or the damper could be stuck, frozen, or with a bad motor. But basically if it is new, it is time to document the problem and see about getting it repaired under warranty. Re: my fridge is freezing my food - cbelt3 - 06-28-2024 Most fridges have an open section in the back that must be left open. Or the food in the back will freeze, staring from the top. My kids kept pushing stuff backwards and it happened. I put plastic stoppers in place to keep it open. Re: my fridge is freezing my food - Grateful11 - 06-28-2024 We have to leave our crisper drawers open about an inch or stuff in there will freeze. It's set on 43 degrees I believe. Re: my fridge is freezing my food - GGD - 06-28-2024 What's the freezer temp like, compared to what it's set at. If for some reason it's struggling to get the freezer to it's desired temp, it might be dropping the fridge section below it's set temp as a side effect, since it's really the freezer that's in charge of making everything cold. And is there an ice maker and is it trying to make lots of ice? Our fridge seems to force the freezer into a super cold mode for some length of time starting when the ice maker fills with water, so if it's constantly making ice, it's going to remain super cold until the ice bin is full. Re: my fridge is freezing my food - pqrst - 06-28-2024 I used to put a couple of milk cartons half full of water in the back of refrigerator to mitigate / prevent stuff from being pushed all the way back. Re: my fridge is freezing my food - NewtonMP2100 - 06-28-2024 …..the good news is you can buy more ice cream and store it below….. |
