An update on the road back / Edit: Exquisitely, beautifuly painful - Blankity Blank - 06-28-2024

Edit
I went searching for the right word.

Numinous
Jeong
Glückseligkeit
Estremercer
Wabi-sabi
Kilig
Sublime

All words about beauty. Not of the face or form, but in some way, of the spirit. Beauty that touches the spirit. Beauty so resplendent, it hurts.

It lives here. In the people here. Their kindness. Their caring. Their deep generosity and even deeper understanding and acceptance.

Thank you for the lyrical, breathtaking joy of being a part of this community. Each and every one of you.

For being my friends and ‘inflicting’ a painfully beautiful sustenance during a time I have never needed it more.

Jeff

PS - My room mate is back home, safe and on the mend. He loved the hospital food, but that’s the only lingering sign he might have hit his head when he fell.

My long, strange trip continues. I continue to learn and be humbled. As you will see, following the update, I do have a plea for assistance to manage current expenses.

If you are of a mind to read no further than the update, I most certainly understand.

On the plus side, though at first it doesn’t sound like it, there was a near miss on permanent housing. While I was selected from the lottery, I narrowly missed making the final cut. But, it was close enough that they strongly encouraged me to keep my name in the pool.

I have thankfully navigated past a bout of severe anxiety attacks that, on two occasions left me laying in the street unable to get back to my feet. However, unfortunately, both hands continue to lose strength and utility as the “claw hand” nerve dysfunction progresses.

Meanwhile, my room mate has taken an unfortunately sharp downturn in his cognitive health. The best example would be, he recently was briefly hospitalized after taking a fall. While in the hospital, he called me from his room, agitated and confused, believing he was back at our boarding house, but was “lost” and couldn’t find his way back to our shared room.

While yesterday was almost two hours of continuous phone calls from him, alarmed at being released from the hospital and being left by the hospital transport somewhere he neither recognized or could adequately describe.

I was able to finally track him down. Still in his hospital room, making all the calls from his bed.

He’s in the very latter stages of life. Life has not been kind to him, and as best I can tell he has no family or friends in his life. Even his social services caseworker is MIA. I will stand by him as best I can, but no little ‘caretaker fatigue’ comes with it.

June has turned out to be the month of the double whammy, and so I have set up a GoFundMe to help with some of the month’s bills.

Some kind of calendar quirk means I’ll need to make two car insurance payments by the end of the month, along with the car payment.

Also, my CalFresh food subsidy was slashed by a third last month. So, for the first time I’ve needed to make use of the local food bank to stretch supplies to the first of next month. A modest increase in rent hasn’t helped.

I’ve set a goal of $600 to cover this month’s bills and to hopefully create a a small buffer for July.

With my health returning, if I can get my car back on the road, I’ll try driving for a delivery service again. A big goal and step forward.

If anyone is able to help, in any amount, it will, without saying, be more appreciated than I can say.

I'll be sending something your way Monday (it's kinda funny, we live 'paycheck to paycheck' around here).

Best of luck to you.

Happy news--the Go Fund Me is a currently 10% over the goal. Hoping that it continues to grow robustly!
