Sob. Another hit piece. And so close to the election.

Re: Why Teslas Crash - RAMd®d - 12-20-2024

In most of the video shown, the video shows the driver wasn't paying attention, and the collisions were preventable, Tesla tech not withstanding.

My point since these debates started happening here is that drivers not paying attention or abusing the FSD package, are responsible for collisions the tech gets blamed for.

It seems clear that Tesla's 'self-driving' or Auto-Pilot can't be relied on 100%.

If Tesla is selling that it can, that's obviously wrong.

In those clips of Muskie, I see him as an egocentric condescending SOB.

The woman who's the wife of a victim says the driver has to be aware of the car's limitations.

True.

She didn't say her husband ignored the reminders to take the wheel.

This is where I'm torn/confused.

Counting on tech to do what one doesn't want to do is a mistake, and Tesla as much as says so.

Yet people do this anyway.

This is akin to an attractive nuisance, but with predictably tragic results.

The bottom line is if you are going to design and sell a new product you must do so with the understanding that the end user is more than likely not going to read or follow the instructions.

If the product fails or does not meet expectations, people are going to want to blame the manufacturer, and often, the courts support this. If someone manages to defeat or bypass any safety feature and gets hurt, then the manufacturer must not have designed those features well enough. If you are going to call a car self-driving, then it better be self-driving. I’m not saying I agree, but that is the way it is and has been for a long time.

That’s why you see labels on packages that state not to ingest something that someone with any sense at all would not consider ingesting. Its why microwave oven doors must lock while running because just telling people it’s dangerous to your health to open them while running is not enough. I don’t see this changing.

So given the newness of electric and self-driving cars, we’ll just have to bear with these topics until the novelty wears off.

Build an idiot-proof car, and the world will build a better idiot.

I still say they shouldn't have cheaped-out & skipped LIDAR in favor of cameras only.

Re: Why Teslas Crash - special - 12-20-2024

Or at least they should not call it FULL SELF Driving.

That is 100% misleading.

OK, I just checked the website and now they call it "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)"

Isn't that an oxymoron?

Inattentive drivers crash, no matter what brand car it is.
Statistics show it is less likely in a Tesla, especially with FSD engaged. See link below.
Too many people die in car wrecks-Fact
People die while using FSD-Fact
People die while using regular car cruise control-Fact
Pure statistics show that less people die while using FSD based on miles traveled-Fact
No, it’s not perfect, but it gets better all the time.
I am judicious and stay alert.
Personally I have driven over 100,000 miles in 9.5 years, using all versions of Tesla Autonomous driving.
In that time never an accident, autonomous or not.
Twice it saved me from a rear end accident.
FSD currently drives 4 times as many miles without an accident as a human driver.
Most humans drive with two eyes and have different levels of brain (computer) power. With age reaction (latency) times get worse.
With FSD there are 8 active external cameras. Digital cameras capture more light than the human eye.
The onboard computer (brain) constantly analyses the 8 cameras, and driver input, with consistent, low latency, and does not age. Actually can be upgraded.

I CHOOSE to use FSD, because it adds to my safety.

If you want to see the current stat of FSD, just search FSD 13.
This guy has been a realistic critic of FSD. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iYlQjINzO_o&pp=ygUJYWkgZHJpdmVy

Edit: The fact that Tesla is the most shorted stock on Wall Street should give an idea why you see so many Clickbait articles that are negative about Tesla.

The big difference is all the other manufacturers of cars that crash aren't telling it's customers that the car can do everything for you. They're telling you it can help you do it. So, when they crash, they know it was their fault and not the car's fault.
