Good article. Gets into the longstanding legal precedent for requiring schools to share revenue (via financial assistance) with female athletes even though their sports don't earn as much for the school as football and men's basketball.
In light of new funds for college athletes via NIL (name, image, likeness) deals, the Biden administration issued guidance under Title IX that female athletes need to be equitably included.

I expect Title IX protections to be gutted in short order. I hope schools don't comply with Rump, but since it involves $$$$$$ they probably will.

Do all players on a team benefit equally from NIL payments? If not, why should they be shared equally between teams at a school? Either it's distributed equally to everyone or it isn't.
My guess is that men's football and basketball got the majority of the NIL payments compared with other men's sports. One could argue that the other men's sports don't generate revenue the way that football and basketball do. My guess would be that women's basketball would be the third highest NIL revenue generator, but way behind football and men's basketball.
It's a slippery slope.
It's like the WNBA players complaining about pay inequity. However, it appears that the cumulative WNBA player payroll represents a larger percentage of WNBA revenue than NBA payroll to revenue. And the WNBA revenue includes the NBA financial support. Based upon all of this, one could argue that WNBA player payroll is more than equitable for the players.

I thought college was about learning, not about being an advertising opportunity. The revenue earned from this very lucrative side gig should benefit all students.
