Would NATO defend us? - davemchine - 03-06-2025 Unbelievable things coming out of his mouth. https://www.reddit.com/r/QuiverQuantitative/comments/1j58ob3/trump_on_nato_countries_defending_the_us_im_not/ Just 24 years ago NATO came to our aid. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Atlantic_Treaty#:~:text=Article%205%20has%20been%20invoked,the%20United%20States%20in%202001 1,000 people died and Trump doesn't remember. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-questions-nato-defend-us-1000-allies-killed/story?id=119529187#:~:text=Log%20In-,Trump%20questions%20if%20NATO%20would%20defend%20US%2C%20but%201%2C000%20allies,11%20attacks%20on%20the%20US As for Japan they aren't even a member of NATO so I'm not sure what Trump is talking about. https://www.hudson.org/national-security-defense/japans-tacit-nato-membership-acts-bridge-global-security-riley-walters Re: Would NATO defend us? - wurm - 03-06-2025 I'm a little surprised he remembers to breathe. Re: Would NATO defend us? - Tiangou - 03-06-2025 NATO joined us in ruining Afghanistan and Iraq. (In lieu of Saudi Arabia where the 9/11 terror attacks were planned and where the majority of plane-hijackers came from... and where the Bush family got a lot of money from.) davemchine wrote: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_9_of_the_Constitution_of_Japan Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution is a clause in the Constitution of Japan outlawing war as a means to settle international disputes involving the state... In its text, the state formally renounces the sovereign right of belligerency and aims at an international peace based on justice and order. The article also states that, to accomplish these aims, armed forces with war potential will not be maintained. The Constitution was imposed by U.S. military occupation (Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers) to prevent rearmament of Japan in the post–World War II period. Article 9. Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes. In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized. Re: Would NATO defend us? - Ombligo - 03-06-2025 It will not surprise me in the least if NATO disbands and the members reform without the US. The same could happen in the Pacific with Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and the Philippines. The US can not be counted on and would be isolated. They're all going to go down. NATO would never disband, they need the USA. They have to weapon up. Japan is seriously vulnerable. No way they're sitting over there feeling secure, with North Korea aiming nukes at them and China breathing down their necks. Stupid Americans on both sides think we can let our guards down and that no country will take advantage of that. Re: Would NATO defend us? - vision63 - 03-07-2025 Half of this country would rob a bank if they seriously and confidently thought they could get away with it. And all this nonsense will just force these dependent countries to rapidly develop their own nuclear arsenals … it’s not like they don’t have the capability or the resources, and now they will feel like they have a responsibility to protect themselves from harm. Stupid Americans is right. Re: Would NATO defend us? - TheCaber - 03-07-2025 Maybe the nations could re-form an alliance without the USofTrump, and call themselves the NorthEastAtlanticTreatyOrganization, or NEATO. Heh.
