Monday smile: Canada’s new PM - pdq - 03-10-2025

Justin Trudeau, having served as PM for nearly a decade, has stepped down in favor of his party’s pick for PM, Mark Carney. Canadian by birth (born in the Northwest Territories!), he graduated with “high honors” from Harvard, where he played hockey as their backup goalie (woot!). Then to a Master’s and PhD at Oxford. Obviously genuinely smart, unlike our guy.

USA Today:

In his first speech since being elected as party leader on Sunday, he directly spoke about Trump and the threat against Canadians.

"Donald Trump has put unjustified tariffs on what we build, on what we sell, on how we earn a living," he said. "He’s attacking Canadian workers, families, and businesses. We can’t let him succeed and we won’t."

… “My government will keep our [retaliatory] tariffs on until the Americans show us respect,” he said.

He said that Canada will "never, ever, will be part of America in any way, shape, or form," referring to Trump’s repeated desire to annex Canada as the "51st state."

Way to go, Orange Turd. It takes a lot to PO a Canadian.

"We didn’t ask for this fight, but Canadians are always ready when someone else drops the gloves. So, Americans should make no mistake… In trade, as in hockey, Canada will win," he said.

Ooh, ouch! For those who don’t follow hockey, Canada just beat the US in an international tournament last month.

So don’t mess with these guys, Don; they’d whip yer pasty fat ass.

(PS-That’s hockey mouth, not meth mouth. And not Dr. Carney, BTW)

Should a betting pool be started to see WHEN the orange CFDT backs down from tariffs on Canadian goods?

Has Trump congratulated him as the new governor yet?

I’ve really enjoyed both the Canadian and Mexican leader’s response to Trump’s bluster. If we can’t respect our own leadership at least we can respect theirs.

Good for them. I'm sure he thought they were just going to cower, and beg for mercy. I'll put up with a little inconvenience if it will embarrass him and make him look like an even bigger tool than he already is.

Agreed. They are both successfully playing Trump.
