Best websites to look for used cars? - special - 04-21-2025

I used car gurus in the past, are there better options?

Thanks

I have generally hit Autotraders, cars.com, and carsdirect. If you are looking for private sales, then add Marketplace, Craigslist, and eBay to the mix

I think Autotempest.com is the king. But we just bought a car through CarMax and it was altogether a really good experience. I think they mostly just have lease cars, so you get a certain type of car there. Any search that includes all the dealers seems very sleazy, which I get sick of dealing with. For example, I called on one car at a Honda dealer, and they never had the car advertised, but were just using it to get people to contact them. I think stuff like that happens a lot, and I’ve kind of had it.

https://www.autotempest.com/ will return results from many of the sites.

I used Facebook marketplace and cargurus. You’ll likely see a lot of overlap between the sites you use.

BTW, what did you get? IIRC your VW AllTrack died recently.

2017 Allroad. Alltrack is back on the road in the hands of someone who was capable of doing the engine swap for cheap.

Strive for something like this. It's a little over-priced but it will go another 100,000 miles on minimal service dollars.

Here

It is location based. I used Autotrader.com and carsoup.com for my most recent search in the MN/WI area for dealer cars and Facebook marketplace for private party.

Here

Good friend has a 2010 Accord he drove until he got a Tesla before Elon went nuts.

he wanted to sell it got never got around.

I can borrow it for week/month until I figure out what I do next.

I may even end up buying it from him. He said he's sell it to me for the lowest price the carvana offers him.
