LTT: I Upgraded My Car With Open-Source AUTOPILOT and it's AMAZING - special - 07-08-2025 What do you think? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdmxM-v4KQg RE: LTT: I Upgraded My Car With Open-Source AUTOPILOT and it's AMAZING - Gilbert - 07-08-2025 I have been using a Comma 3 in my 2017 Volt for just over a year. It works great but it is not true autopilot. It handles lane centering (lateral control) and longitudinal control (like the Auto Cruise Control in many cars) really well. It can also bring the car to a complete stop and then start moving it again as the traffic resumes which is great in stop and go traffic. It also has auto brake hold so when I come to a stop, I don't have to hold the brake pedal. I bought it second hand and the install took a couple of hours to run the cable from the back of the car to the fuse box and up to the Comma installed on the windshield. I miss having it when I drive my wife's car. When I replace my Volt, if the Comma is still a product, I will make sure the replacement car is compatible. My 2024 Hyundai came with all that stuff installed - I'm shocked that it can be added after the fact. I'm sure it's not as good, but still... RE: LTT: I Upgraded My Car With Open-Source AUTOPILOT and it's AMAZING - Gilbert - 07-08-2025 For sure. The same capabilities are definitely available in most newer cars. I was just grateful that I was able to add it to my car for less than $700 dollars. RE: LTT: I Upgraded My Car With Open-Source AUTOPILOT and it's AMAZING - mattkime - 07-08-2025 Interesting. Wish my car was supported. The vast majority of my driving is pretty short otherwise I would have bought a car with these features. |
