Years ago I knew a guy who said he wrote a hit by Whitney Houston, imagine my surpris - hal - 07-11-2025

Back in the 90s I knew this guy named Jimmy George - a smooth talking guy from Tennessee. He was a mess. He was a druggie and not the soft stuff... He worked at the same place I did for a short while, but got fired for pulling $ from the register. He was pretty scummy.

He claimed with a straight face that he wrote a hit single for Whitney Houston. I called BS, but short of hopping in a car and racing to Tower Records, there was no way to prove it. I never gave it much thought afterward - I wouldn't trust this guy with a 10' pole - why would I waste any time on this?

Just now that whole thing just popped in my head and I searched "Jimmy George" and "Whitney Houston" in quotes - shouldn't be that hard to find.

And to my amazement, there was a match. "Just To See Her" performed by Whitney Houston actually won a grammy in 1988 - and it was written by Jimmy George. Now that I think of it, he mentioned that he won a grammy back then - but I just dismissed it.

So here I am - flabbergasted. He was telling the truth! Holy crap, he even has a wiki page.

Then I get suspicious all over again. There is no way the guy I knew was famous enough for a wiki page.

I click and start reading... the guy that won the grammy was 21 years older than me. NO WAY was the guy I knew that old.

OF COURSE! The scummy guy saw his name and co-oped it for status (?) or who knows - scummy druggies are unpredictable. Who knows why he did it...

Part of the way through the story, I thought "Jimmy George is not exactly a unique name." Tongue

Good story, though.
