Windows XP Home Ed .DLL issue - kap - 04-11-2007
For some reason, a Windows XP Home Ed .DLL file has been relocated to a location whereas no other .DLL files can occupy (I don't remember the exact error) So now AVG isn't recognized by Windows. Does it mean I will have to resinstall the OS? TiA

Never heard of something like that. What have you done recently, like before the last two times you have restarted, and today before you got this error?

Ok. I have got the exact error as shown below. Still, I don't understand what has gone wrong because in Control Panel, the Security Control Center keeps showing that the Virus Protection is out of date. I tried to 'associate' AVG (the latest FREE version) to it but it wouldn't take it. Hope this makes sense
"The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C\\WINDOWS\system32\SHELL32.dll occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL."

I fixed a XP problem very similar to what you are expeiencing this P.M.
It appears that a couple of MS's Security Updates; MS007-017 & MS07-008 broke a lot of established applications. You have to download hotfix KB 935448. See the following web page for a complete explanation. I don't know all the details, but the hotfix cured my customer's problem. It manifested itself as an audio problem with the Realtek HW Audio Contol Panel. Basically two .DLL can't occupy the same memory space at the same time!
