Should I keep going to class? - Baby Tats - 04-25-2007

One of my professors offered the incentive that if any individual in his class had an A average after the last quiz, that they would be exempt from the final exam. I worked my butt off throughout the semester on tough material and was able to keep an A average so the final is optional for me. My question is this- should I continue to go to class? It doesn't matter too much in that there are only 4 lectures remaining, but it is a pretty small class and since the professor knows me- he will notice my absence. I would like to ask him for a letter of recommendation at the end of the semester. So out of respect, should I keep attending class bearing in mind that he is still teaching new material? Or is getting the rest of the semester off my reward for keeping up for the first 13 of 15 weeks? Do you think it would offend most professors?

It's been a long time since I was in school, but I remember going for myself and not the instructors. Good for you that you are doing so well, but I think if you ditch the last classes, you'll only be hurting yourself.

I'm a little confused. Did he say "exempt from the final exam" or "exempt from the rest of the classes and the final exam"? Because those are two different things, wouldn't you say?

No offence, but - If you are asking for a letter of recommendation from the professor, do you really need to ask the question about skipping class?

Figure that a lecture is an hour or so. Is a good reference worth four hours of your time? Keep going to class. You might learn something in those last lectures too.

Go to class. Sit directly in front of the professor.

When class is over plead, "Isn't there anything else you can teach us?"

The goal of any student should be to suck the professor dry.

I would.. (keep going, that is...)

But I MIGHT skip ONE of those lectures if it was a particularly nice day, and I could go someplace and enjoy it....
If I was going to skip it to sleep in, or web surf, or whatever, I wouldn't...

Of course, here locally, we've had a string of lousy, cloudy, cool, rainy days..
So I've been itching for a NICE spring day!

Unless you have a signed agreement between you and him about the final exam I would definitely keep going. You wouldn't want to anger him and risk the possibility of him retracting that free pass on the final exam.

Ummmm, that should be offense. =)
