YouTube Video Streams on your iPhone! - Harbourmaster - 06-20-2007

" On June 29, iPhone customers will enjoy the best YouTube experience on a mobile device thanks to a new Apple-designed application that wirelessly streams YouTube content to iPhone over Wi-Fi or EDGE networks. YouTube now encodes their videos in the advanced H.264 format, and iPhone will be the first mobile device to play YouTube content encoded in the format. Apple TV customers, meanwhile, can begin enjoying that content today after installing the free software update directly from Apple TV."

How is this a surprise? I mean, you can get on the internet with the iPhone, so why would you not be able to navigate to YouTube and view videos?

JP - They'll have to write software for it. SlingPlayer is a stand-alone app. I've got it on my wife's handheld as well as the computers.

I know. I would just think they'd WANT to write/port it.

Well, Jobsy has said no 3rd party stuff. That's my concern. Well, that and I can't have one.

Re: YouTube Video Streams on your iPhone! - Jp! - 06-20-2007

how can they prohibit 3rd party apps?

Re: YouTube Video Streams on your iPhone! - weapon - 06-20-2007

I thought that all third party stuff could be developed in ajax?

"On third-party iPhone apps
When asked about the iPhone's closed development platform and whether the company recognized the need of large institutions to build their own applications for the handset, Jobs replied that Apple was "wrestling" to balance the requirements for security and stability with the desire for custom application development."

Press release on June 11, "Third-party applications created using Web 2.0 standards can extend iPhone’s capabilities without compromising its reliability or security."

Sounds like only Web2.0 apps.

Web 2.0 stuff only, exactly.

Stevie mentioned that at WWDC. I'm thinking he'll open the 'Phone to developers after the phone has gain solid footing in the market.

Has anything been printed as to the cost of usage of the iPhone? I don't mean how much it will cost to get it, but how much it will cost to run it? It can't be covered by just a normal talktime deal, since you'll be using so much internet access...
