I'm one of those people that has a hard time throwing things away. Consequently my itunes library has grown to almost 100gb. I have lots of dupes of songs from different albums which i can't seem to make myself get rid of b/c they complete an album. But I really don't need all that right?

Aaaaarrggggh!!!!!!

Archive, then purge.

You really don't NEED the full discography of Supertramp, "Dreamer" and maybe"Give A Little Bit" will suffice...

What? WHAT? You left out "The Logical Song" and "Goodbye Stranger".

Funny, I was just going to do a post on iTunes; one of my favorite playlists (a smart playlist) is "Never Played". I put it on mix and I'm hearing stuff I haven't heard in years -- or ever. Fun thing to do.

If you have the HD space, don't sweat it. If you want to keep your library smaller than an iPod can handle, then find and remove dupes -- usually that comes to pass when you have regular albums and greatest hits collections. Dump the greatest hits ones and make your own playlists for greatest hits collections.

And do a playlist like I mention. Sort by album, and then take a good look at what shows up in the "Never Played" list. Do you really want that whole album, or just the radio release (or two) from it? Delete the rest.

(And, BTW, you can delete songs and albums from a playlist, smart or regular. Hold down the Option key as you click the delete key, and you'll get the "are you sure..." prompt. Finding this shortcut has saved me worlds of time pruning my collection.)
