In Honour of Canada Day ... - chas_m - 07-01-2007

I'm announcing my new blog, Crawling From the USA.

http://crawlingfromtheusa.blogspot.com

It will be about our experiences as we prepare to leave the land we love (but refuse to further enable) and move to Canada.

Well-wishers welcome. Trolls not. Curious parties are invited to read and respond.

PLEASE no political replies to this thread. It's just an announcement because some folks here indicated to me in PM that they wanted to know when the blog went up. It's up.

Good luck with the move. BC is beautiful. I love some of the smaller islands. Hopefully, you will get some time to drive up to Jasper, along the Icefields Parkway.

I guess this can be considered payback for Canada sending us Bryan Adams. :-)

You're first going to emigrate and then try to find employment?

Most countries have restrictions on just showing up unemployed.

Or do you think you'll have a legal job by the end of September?

Bill:

This is a very good question, but there are several mitigating factors.

1. Canada's economy is VERY healthy and they have a severe (educated/skilled) manpower shortage. It's not easy being a world player with only 32M total population! Smile

2. I have money. I'm not a millionaire or anything, but I could live comfortably up there for years. With careful investing, perhaps even a lifetime.

3. My wife is Canadian. This helps, but not as much as some people might think!

4. I am a college-educated white male with a number of skill sets.

5. I will be applying for employability status before we leave, and

6. Taking a trip up there in August to start the job-hunting process.

Moving to Canada has crossed my mind many times, especially during hockey season. Hockey Night In Canada beats anything Versus throws at my TV, eh. Being a NHL fan in the Lower 48 can be a pretty lonely prospect.

That can be made easier, just take a hockey stick and knock your two front teeth out. Anytime you miss the sport just look in the mirror.

Not just hockey, eh?
