FYI: OWC's NAS Drive Debuts - Zoidberg - 07-25-2007 ![]() http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/Network-Attached-Storage/NDAS/ Re: FYI: OWC's NAS Drive Debuts - rz - 07-25-2007 I already bought one this morning. I chose the bare (no drive) model for $59. I wish it used SATA drives instead of IDE though, since I have some spare SATA drives. Re: FYI: OWC's NAS Drive Debuts - Mac1337 - 07-25-2007 Anyone else selling bare NAS boxes? Where does it say it is IDE? Re: FYI: OWC's NAS Drive Debuts - davester - 07-25-2007 I was thinking of getting one of these (they've been available for a while) but they had the limitation that only one mac at a time could be hooked up in read-write mode and read-write privileges had to be passed from one mac to the other. I don't know if they've fixed this issue or not. Re: FYI: OWC's NAS Drive Debuts - rz - 07-25-2007 It took a long time to figure out they use IDE. I think I finally saw it on one of the technical spec pages. I've seen other bare bones NAS boxes, but none this cheap, and none that were advertised as Mac-compatible. Re: FYI: OWC's NAS Drive Debuts - space-time - 07-25-2007 NDAS != NAS Notice the D in there Or should I say NDAS < NAS ? Re: FYI: OWC's NAS Drive Debuts - anonymouse1 - 07-25-2007 But only 10/100 Ethernet? No 10/100/1000? Re: FYI: OWC's NAS Drive Debuts - MikeF - 07-26-2007 Search the forum for other comments on NDAS -- as space-time notes, it is not the same as NAS. The key difference being that special software needs to be installed on every computer that wants access. Ximeta, the main purveyor of NDAS, took a real long time after the last OS X update to update the driver to function. If you are cutting edge and want to be on the front of every OS change be aware of that. Maybe OWC can help if they become big sellers... Read the manual posted here and the mac warnings included within: Re: FYI: OWC's NAS Drive Debuts - Sam3 - 07-27-2007 It's a glorified Ximeta. From the description: Key Features Include: ... • Ximeta NDAS 2011 chipset ... I have a Ximeta and I could never get it to work quite right between my Mac and my wife's Windows machine. It's pretty limiting that only one machine can have read/write access at a time. |
