How to secure a garage - ho'ard - 09-30-2007 I'd like to turn my garage into a useable workshop . . . the biggest barrier is the potential for theft (mine is the only garage in the alley that hasn't been cleaned out). Any tips for ideal doors? The roll-up and side doors need replacing anyways. Re: How to secure a garage - RgrF - 09-30-2007 GarageBand behind a firewall works for me. Re: How to secure a garage - macphanatic - 09-30-2007 Do you have a lift-up garage door? If so, do the bars that lock the door by going though the track have holes at the end? I secure mine by putting padlocks through them. You can also mount brackets on the studs on either side of the door to take angle iron or 2x's to brace the door. You could also look to put locks on the track itself. Replace glass windows with plexiglass or install glass block. You could also install window bars. Just remember to give yourself a second means of egress if possible while working in the garage in case the unfortunate happens. Will prevent anyone jacking the door up. Re: How to secure a garage - lafinfil - 09-30-2007 A couple of C clamps on the track above the roller is quick and easy Re: How to secure a garage - Numo - 09-30-2007 Trip switches on door(s) that sound in your house? Re: How to secure a garage - RgrF - 09-30-2007 Strange During the earthquake the question was how to open the damn doors. Most of the neighbors had no idea there was a release mechanism; in fact they stopped thinking when their electronics (cell phones-etc) stopped. They'll triplicate that behavior during the next 'quake. Re: How to secure a garage - Mac1337 - 09-30-2007 Any sensors that let you know inside the house that you left the garage door open? We have slept many a night that way. Re: How to secure a garage - ADent - 10-01-2007 [quote Dakota]Any sensors that let you know inside the house that you left the garage door open?
