Again with the USB drive on a PC - jimbrady - 02-09-2006

External drive enclosures come with a software disk that's of no value to Mac users. It's apparently essential for PC-users (since I can't get this CD-burner to work with my in-laws' XP box).

Since the case mfg. co. has no idea what drive will be installed, the drivers must be only concerned with driving the innards of the case, yes?

If I don't have the disk that came with the enclosure, can I get it running some other way?

I can't believe it doesn't just show up. I've been surprised by the things that actually WORK with XP.

I would think you'd need a driver for the CDRW and the chipset (which THAT, at least, should be built in).

If so, maybe I don't need that disk that came w/the enclosure.
