How to properly backup 10GB iBook? - spearmint - 11-22-2007

I very infrequently drag hard drive icon to external 10gb drive logo after erasing external. Do not update in between. I would like to know if this is sufficient. 10gb does not take that long with Firewire. Never had occasion to use backup. With six months in between it was not timely for my bookmark problem which I somewhat solved with app admin files.

Any way of doing it better? Tried a couple of shareware demos that did not work and others are too expensive and do not work with 10.2.8 system. I am going to keep system as is with dual bootable 9 and X systems but will start all new next year with new Macbook or so. Not spending anymore on this computer and drive is nearing capacity.

Any suggestions? Do not really need to update frequently.

There are older versions of CCC and SuperDuper that should work with 10.2. Use one of them. This isn't OS 9, and so copying an OS X system by dragging the HD will only result in despair.

Well...if you don't mind re-installing OS X from the system disks, you can get away with dragging and dropping to an external drive. If you must have a bootable backup, then CCC is the way to go.
