we are trying to rent a town house for my in-laws. The TH is owned by an individual who wants a credit score. However, since this is just an individual and not some sort of institution or business we don't feel comfortable giving out our SS# to him. So we sent him our credit report from this year when we refinanced our house. Shouldn't that be good enough? Is there anything else we can do?

it'd be good enough for me and I wouldn't give him even that let alone my SS.
your bank should be able to testify as to you worthiness.

I would think honest individual that takes a look at your credit report and then it is you landlord, i.e. you know where he has some property, you know who he is, how to find him, is more trustworthy than an "institution or business" that might store your SSN on a laptop that gets stolen or on a server that is hacked.

Perhaps. But this is just "some guy" who bought a townhouse then moved. Now he wants to rent it rather than selling. To my knowledge he owns no more property other than where he is living now in Raleigh, NC...about 2 hours from where his townhome is.
