Car and Driver's Top Ten cars list released - AAA - 11-30-2007

http://www.caranddriver.com/bestcars/14358/2008-10best-cars.html

2008 BMW 3-series
2008 Cadillac CTS
2008 Chevrolet Corvette
2008 Chevrolet Malibu
2008 Honda Accord
2008 Honda Fit
2008 Mazda MX-5
2008 Mazdaspeed 3
2008 Porsche Boxster and Cayman
2008 Volkswagen GTI

*********************

For the money, out of all of THOSE (staying ON the list), I would recommend the Mazdaspeed3. But, I love how the Boxster drives and handles. And the GTI is good, too, but not a pick OVER the MS3.

The one I most disagree with is the Fit. I found it to be very vanilla, and not a standout car. The others suit you if you are in that market. I'd say Accord OVER the Malibu. CTS and 3 series, toss up. Vettes are Vettes and if you want one get one. They are best bang for buck until we see what GT-R has up its sleeves here.

You mean C&Ds' top ten list of advertisers?

It's the assertion that's funny.

Car of the year = Biggest Ad$

Bunk

The Fit must be a decent car, it won the MotorWeek Best of the Year award too. http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/dc2007/00.shtml

I really expected them to get better mileage though. The 1.8 liter Civic is rated for the same mileage even with a 20% larger engine and another 200 pounds of weight. Almost all Honda cars are a little soft right from the factory and feel much better with at least 50 series tires and stiffer shocks.

If I did not want to do any upgrades on the car, I would be tempted by the MazdaSpeed 3 except for the noise and mileage.

All I can say is go drive one with no preconceptions (as best you can) going in. Tell me it's the BEST in the category after that.

I drove Versa, Fit, Yaris, etc. as close to back-to-back as I could. Matter of fact, I did indeed drive the Versa/Fit back to back. YES, the Versa is bigger, but priced the same and marketed to same group, imo.

I'm surprised to see the Fit there, too.

I'm driving Road & Track's 2006 Car of the Year, the Honda Civic Si, and love it.

I can't figure out who the Fit is aimed at. It looks like it's got some of the Mini Cooper's ideas, watered down to look slower and less interesting, the result is, it looks more like a shrunked-head version of a mini van.
