Canon flash on an Olympus dSLR? - jimbrady - 12-02-2007 The hot shoe fits, but will it work, work badly, not work, or break? Canon 420EX headed for eBay if the answer is no. Re: Canon flash on an Olympus dSLR? - lafinfil - 12-02-2007 Without knowing the specifics of the particular model I'll say it should work if it has a straight up manual or auto exposure mode using a sensor on the flash itself - not a sensor at the film plane or any auto mode that requires the camera itself to be a "sensor" It should work like any other third party / after market flash Re: Canon flash on an Olympus dSLR? - jimbrady - 12-02-2007 It worked so well on my Pro1 without reading the manual, that I've no clue. There definitely seems to be some control provided from the camera, though maybe it can be manually over-ridden. Re: Canon flash on an Olympus dSLR? - lafinfil - 12-02-2007 No - I meant a manual setting (guide numbers) not a user manual for the flash Usually there are a number of settings on the flash - common marking Manual / Auto or AE / and Program (using the cameras internal sensor) You should be able to use in manual and AE modes just like it any non dedicated model (those not needing an internal sensor at the focal plane) Re: Canon flash on an Olympus dSLR? - jimbrady - 12-02-2007 Yeah, I got ya the 1st time, 'fil. Though I was also aware of the possibility of the "manual" double-entendre being misconscrewed. Fact is, I bet the manual is quite clear on the unit's manual operation. Re: Canon flash on an Olympus dSLR? - lafinfil - 12-02-2007 So it does work manually, or with an AE exposure setting - correct ? If it does that's all you can ask of it. No programming modes - just AE Re: Canon flash on an Olympus dSLR? - jimbrady - 12-02-2007 [quote lafinfil]So it does work manually, or with an AE exposure setting - correct ? Haven't tried it yet. Waiting for someone to definitively guarantee me no explosion will ensue. Re: Canon flash on an Olympus dSLR? - vision63 - 12-02-2007 Just do it! Take it off if you start to smell something. |
