Photoshop Experts - help please - Rain - 12-05-2007

Got a CD project I need help with.

Client sent me a CD to duplicate - printed on Silver media.

Asked me to scan the original CD and try printing it.

I have a high rez scan of the disc. Its red with transparent lettering (so the letters are the silver of the CD face).

Any way to select the silver lettering in my scanned image and remove that color?
(making it transparent)

lo-rez version

Select:ColorRange.

Sample the red or the silver and play with the slider until you have a fairly clean selection.

BUT...

It's gonna be a lot cleaner for you to just re-type the text.

yea, but my memory of fonts has gone to the dogs in my older years.

I'd never be able to match the fonts.
Original artwork files are long gone.
Artist is deceased.

If I'm unable to clean up this hi-rez scan I'll tell the client that Im forced to start over.

Looks like Adobe Garamond. If not, Garamond will probably be close enough.

I have Adobe Garamond Pro - matches just fine.

What did they do to create that line between the LEON and RAINES?

Probably just a thin vector shape.

If you can use the Pen tool you can make a selection (path first) around the type then delete. Also, a crude but effective way is to use the Magic Wand to select the type but you'll have to mess with the Tolerance as the values change.

resetting the type is going to be the best solution, but you can use the magic wand on the RED and then select similar color, then inverse selection
