The very best feature of M$ Office.... - Jimmypoo - 01-03-2008 Re: The very best feature of M$ Office.... - Zoidberg - 01-03-2008 ![]() Just used that feature yesterday, and twice; once on my mom-in-law's MacBook, then on my Aunt's. Then I installed http://www.neooffice.com Re: The very best feature of M$ Office.... - richorlin - 01-03-2008 This warning alone would keep me from using it: "Since NeoOffice is developed by volunteers and tested by users, we expect that users will find crashing or other serious bugs" Even if it IS free, it shouldn't be in general release if it crashes. What if Ford issued a disclaimer with every car they sold: "Your new car may or may not run off the road into a tree every three thousand miles." Re: The very best feature of M$ Office.... - Jimmypoo - 01-03-2008 Everything we run crashes occasionally, ESPECIALLY Redmond crap! Re: The very best feature of M$ Office.... - Spiff - 01-03-2008 So how stable is NeoOffice? I'm thinking about going in that direction myself. Edit: OK, posted late and did not see above posts... Re: The very best feature of M$ Office.... - Zoidberg - 01-03-2008 I've not had any issues with NeoOffice but, honestly, I don't use it for a lot. Have never had it crash on me in any of the modules I've used, though. Re: The very best feature of M$ Office.... - Don C - 01-03-2008 I just downloaded NeoOffice on my PB G4, both the program and the update, repaired permissions and now Appleworks 6 will not open. I cannot start it from the dock, from the application, nor can I double click nor drag onto the application a file. A restart has not fixed the problem. Re: The very best feature of M$ Office.... - Don C - 01-03-2008 Update ... after downloading and running NeoOffice, Appleworks 6 would not load and run. Rebooting the computer, repairing permissions, even running Onyx did not fix the problem. So I downloaded the 6.2.9 updater again (I'd done this long ago) and ran it and whatever the updater did to the file fixed the problem. AW now runs. Thought I'd mention it just to close the issue. Re: The very best feature of M$ Office.... - Jimmypoo - 01-03-2008 that's strange that the two interfered. I wonder if they share more than fonts? Re: The very best feature of M$ Office.... - silvarios - 01-03-2008 [quote richorlin]This warning alone would keep me from using it: "Since NeoOffice is developed by volunteers and tested by users, we expect that users will find crashing or other serious bugs" Even if it IS free, it shouldn't be in general release if it crashes. What if Ford issued a disclaimer with every car they sold: "Your new car may or may not run off the road into a tree every three thousand miles." You apparently have never read an End User License Agreement from any software company then. Wait for iPhoto to crash taking your last 10 minutes of work with it and then call Apple to complain. Wait for Windows XP to die after 8 months and then call MS to complain. Either has zero liability for their products being pieces of crap. It's sad really, but at least NeoOffice is free. With paid software you still have no real recourse if the software is buggy, unstable, or just plain awful. Sorry if my tone comes across as too negative, but I wanted to alleviate this specific concern so you can start using NeoOffice if so desired. Don't let that sentence they posted concern you. In fact, think of it as a good natured warning that most software should come right out and say and not hide in microscopic print in their EULA. Good luck. Nathan |
