Sounds like a great deal if you need the wireless keyboard and mouse.

That model came out mid August so you've possibly lost 4.5 months of warranty by the time you take possession.

You can get a refurb 20" from Apple for $1299 and Applecare from LA Computer for $99 Is it worth $300 savings if you are not hell-bent on having a wireless kb and mouse. That's $150 of the asking price.

EDIT: who am I to tell you what to do. I bought an Al 20" in August and then sold it last month to buy a 24" Al model. It's your money. Do what makes you happy. It's a good price for what you are getting. Buying it all new would set you back $1800. Go for it, man.

The Apple comes with a complete 1 year warranty, and Applecare adds another $169 retail which would warranty you through Jan 2011 but you could get it cheaper on ebay, and your example has an extra 70 gb hd (worth perhaps an extra $30) and and extra 1 gb RAM (worth perhaps another $30) plus wireless kb and mouse (you pick a value), BUT it has lousier video (only 128 mb). Note that the $1299 example cited in the previous post is for a 2.4 ghz machine, not 2.0...not comparable IMHO.

Personally I'd say that price would be a good one if it was new, but it's not. It's the high end of what I'd pay for a used machine if I was in a hurry.

One more thing to note...the 20" aluminum iMacs have video issues. They use a crummier LCD than the prior white plastic one and there have been quality control issues with color banding reported. If it were me, I'd save up a bit more and get a 24" with much better video, or spend less money and buy a used white plastic one.

I have a 20" white one now - considering it as an upgrade...

Re: Deal or no deal? iMac Al... - Cary - 01-03-2008

By the way, owner claims purchase in October, so 3 months of warranty is gone...

I'd go for it - if you buy from Apple you also need to consider sales tax.

Re: Deal or no deal? iMac Al... - jdc - 01-03-2008

you have a 20" white what? G5? core duo?

its not much of an upgrade if you ask me (if you already have an intel iMac)

2.16 C2D Intel

Re: Deal or no deal? iMac Al... - davester - 01-03-2008

As far as I'm concerned, going from a 2.16 C2D intel with a nice screen to a 2.0 C2D Intel with a crappy screen is a significant downgrade.

Well, it's a 2.2 GHz, not 2.0...
