Auto shops - M A V I C - 02-07-2008 Had the car in the shop last week. Got new rotors, brake pads, and replaced a couple tie rods. The repair took longer than expected because I asked they diagnose a rattle, and that turned out to be the tie rods. Being our only car, they helped us get a rental car. They were very friendly, prices were very reasonable and they certainly knew their stuff. This week it's a different story. We had a few other things we wanted done under warranty so we took it to the dealer. Although quick to schedule an appointment, they were rather rude when we got there. They don't commit to any timelines, then say they have a lot of other cars to work on as a reason why ours is taking longer than expected. They don't even bother to call us to let us know it's going to run over to the next day. Every time we've been there, they are the toughest to deal with. Either never committing to a time or committing to a time and then going later, recommitting, going over... repeat. If we didn't have to take it to the dealer for the warranty work, we wouldn't go there. My dad was a mechanic for a large portion of my childhood. He had his own shop for a while. I know there are a lot of bad apples, but typically dealers have been better. But dealing with this dealer almost makes me want to avoid this brand of cars. Re: Auto shops - lafinfil - 02-07-2008 Is there another dealer in the area that can handle the warranty work ? My bro-in-law bought my sister a Mazda 5 that was used but only 10K on it so it has the warranty left. The local dealer has a bad reputation so he takes it in for all the scheduled warranty work to a different dealer (about 50 miles - in Indy) Re: Auto shops - Mr645 - 02-07-2008 2 yrs ago I bought my wife a new BMW. She loved the car and still does, but the local dealer is so bad for service, and is the only dealer within 25 miles, that the chance of our next car being a BMW is slim to none, and slim left. The passanger side airbag just got fixed, after over 5 months waiting for parts???? Re: Auto shops - M A V I C - 02-07-2008 [quote lafinfil]Is there another dealer in the area that can handle the warranty work ? Far enough away that we'd have to rent a car... we're looking at buying the same car, but a couple years newer. Then get a third party extended warranty and then the other shop can handle it. Rent a Cars with insurance and stuff end up $50 even for cheap car. Being by myself I am more or less with places I can walk to. Fortunately I have some close by. Re: Auto shops - lafinfil - 02-07-2008 Well so far it's only been fluid changes and scheduled maintenance (it only has about 20K on it now) My b-in-law takes it down and waits - usually an hour or so (top notch dealer) Has his blackberry and cell and it's biz as usual in contact with clients If it needed real work and was under warranty they would leave and and rent a car if needed. If non warranty we have a couple good independent mechanics. Between all of my family, someone is in Indy or making an airport run a couple times a week. No issue Re: Auto shops - comaplate - 02-07-2008 [quote M A V I C]But dealing with this dealer almost makes me want to avoid this brand of cars. Make sure to let the auto manufacturer know this. Auto dealers are a franchise operation, and not all manufacturers enjoy seeing their brand image tarnished by a franchisee, but of course, your mileage may vary with this tactic. Re: Auto shops - Racer X - 02-07-2008 MAVIC, there are a number of AUDI dealerships around here. Heck, isn't there one in the U district? Really think that'd make a difference? [quote Racer X]MAVIC, there are a number of AUDI dealerships around here. Heck, isn't there one in the U district? That's the one I'm speaking of. There's another in Bellevue. Still, we'd need to rent a car if we went there. We could get a free loaner in Tacomas... but it's Tacoma. Re: Auto shops - Racer X - 02-07-2008 yeah, write a letter or two to the regional HQ's service manager. |
