So, I bought two 500 GB WD SATA drives... - SKYLANE - 02-07-2008 These drives will go into QuickSilver with PCI Sata Controller for server functions. After I had them installed, I went to hook up the power and discovered that they don't have the "legacy ATA power connectors" (are they called that?). So, now what do I do. I thought the SATA drives had the same power connectors we all know and love. Maybe some do? Connector adapter? I did see an adapter here: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.cablesdirect.com/sata/images/sata-power.JPG&imgrefurl=http://www.cablesdirect.com/power/internal.asp&h=492&w=1000&sz=43&tbnid=YNO7a3dwyihn4M:&tbnh=73&tbnw=149&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsata%2Bpower%2Bconnector%26um%3D1&start=1&sa=X&oi=images&ct=image&cd=1 Model: WD5000AAKS Re: So, I bought two 500 GB WD SATA drives... - JJ - 02-07-2008 Some of the SATA drives did have the legacy power connectors, but I think all of the recent ones use the new connector. The adapter is what you need. JJ Re: So, I bought two 500 GB WD SATA drives... - Filliam H. Muffman - 02-07-2008 I looked through Google images and found some drives had the legacy Molex connectors, but they all had SATA power connectors. Re: So, I bought two 500 GB WD SATA drives... - Jimmypoo - 02-07-2008 Try to get one smaller than this..... Re: So, I bought two 500 GB WD SATA drives... - silvarios - 02-07-2008 Similar experience happened to me when I got my first SATA drives, but I was lucky to catch the need for the adapters before I bought the drive. I bought my adapters from Monoprice. Good price. Good luck. Nathan |
