i just bought a 500GB ata drive to put in an older Lacie (D2) case. when i booted up with the bigger drive in the lacie case and reformatted it, it only shows up as 128GB is this the maximum that i will be able to get out of the lacie case?

maybe. see if LaCie has a firmware updater for the bridgeboard to see larger drives. That case must be over 5 years old if it can't se big drives.

If not the case, check the drive to see if it has a jumper to limit the size reported so it will be compatible with older systems.

Nada we can do for a LaCie enclosure.... Not aware of any jjumpers or firmware available to change them. I'd guess the enclosure is:

A> from before 2003, in which case - that predates industry standard LBA for over 128GB

B> purchased after, but built to limit by LaCie in which case nothing they've put out there that would adjust that.
