Here's a good one (trackball question) - PeterB - 02-18-2006

Can a pool (billiard) ball be used instead of a trackball ball in a trackball?

I seemed to remember reading somewhere that it could.

Reason I ask: I've just come upon a whole bunch of old pool balls, and I see that they don't fit my Kensington Expert mouse... too large (won't even fit in the socket). I wonder if they'll fit the older-style ADB? I think I have one of those around here somewhere...

I think they fit the older ADB version--they had rollers the ball rolled on.

If it's not an optical trackball and has rollers, I can't see why not as long as it fits.
A bit heavy if it falls out and lands on a bare toe. Smile

Ehhhh, just tried, and they don't fit?!? Just slightly too small? Any way to adjust to make it fit, I wonder?

That's strange, because I thought they were the same size...

Try a bumper pool ball.

Try a bowling ball. You'll have to drop it in from a couple feet up though to get it to fit correctly.
