It is not like rattlesnakes are endangered. He probably breeds them for this and other stuff (skeletons or hide) Just like cows or alligators.
They are just another commodity.

One of my daughter's former partners in the club had a bottle of snake vodka he bought in Chinatown behind the bar. I don't think it was a rattlesnake tho. it looked pretty disgusting, the vodka was no longer clear.
