Firefox is the Culprit for Beachballs? - IronMac - 03-28-2008

Hi all,

My G4 933 is being beachballed to death and I only restarted the system three days ago. Seriously, it's beachballing even as I type this out. Running 10.3.9, 1 gig of ram, lots of HD space. Activity Monitor shows Page ins/outs of 315892/249942.

I strongly suspect that it's FF 2.0...latest version. If I upgrade to the 3.0 beta will it still have sessionsaver in case of a crash?

Thanks.

I had upgraded to the beta but have since gone back to Firefox 2. Beta kept crashing everytime I was checking my Yahoo mail.

Actually, I suspect that it's more OnyX's fault than FF. I didn't use OnyX until about a week ago, before that, I would only need to restart every 3-5 months but now it's become a real annoyance.

Thanks for the heads-up on Yahoo Mail. I need that for a particular project of mine.

I've been having trouble with the new Yahoo mail. It loads really slowly if at all, and Does it in Firefox and safari. It's okay in the "classic" mail version.

FF2 was a persistent source of beachballs for me - often, once I had more than a few windows open + flash, the system would grind to a halt. I would have to quit it (or force-quit it) every few hours. Since upgrading to 3.0beta4, things have been much, much better.

You need to restart again to get rid of those pageouts.

Then try Yahoo mail immediately, with Activity Monitor running, and watch for the problem.

I've not had any of that browser trouble. FF 2 & Beta have both worked fine. 3.0beta4 is ok here.

Ok, restarted FF and things are fine but the pageouts have not been affected. Way up there still. I can tell FF is slowing down again. Grrrrr...

There has to be a solution to all this...

I just checked FF and there is a new update. Running 2.0.0.12 and says should update to 2.0.0.13 version. What's this Beta version everyone's talking about? My present version runs smooth without and beach balls. Anyone else update to the recommended 2.0.0.13 yet?
