iMac woes have turned to iMac cheers - Don C - 04-14-2008 In an earlier post The problem turned out to NOT be a hard drive failure as Tech Tools Pro suggested but instead was a motherboard failure. An Apple Store Genius confirmed the problem. Had some problems with my Apple Care, but my call to them was quickly escalated to a supervisor who was able to get everything worked out; including the time to get that resolved it took two days from dropping off the computer until it was ready for pickup. It's running just fine now. In case the problem was the hard drive as Tech Tools Pro suggested, I bought a 500GB drive from OWC. Haven't decided if I'll use it or sell it or try to return it. I have two firewire drives now, a 200 and a 500. I'll decide soon. This is the first extended warranty I've ever purchases for any of my Apple products, but it saved me a $900 expense this time! Apple might have covered the exchange given that the problem was a known iMac defect, but having AC made it pretty straightforward. Re: iMac woes have turned to iMac cheers - WHiiP - 04-14-2008 Hi Don . . . You might consider making the new hard drive part of your Time Machine back up routine. Just a thought. Mighty glad it all worked out for you!! ![]() Re: iMac woes have turned to iMac cheers - Jimmypoo - 04-14-2008 AppleCare can always pay. Just ask GtDS. Friend has iBook 1.2 that is flopping out. AppleCare expires in August. You just KNOW that this is going to be a MacBook swap. What a deal. Wish I had bought it for the mini -- I'd end up with, most likely, even a CoreSolo mini instead of a G4...... It's 2 years old now. Perfect timing for it. IF I had AppleCare on it. Re: iMac woes have turned to iMac cheers - Speedy - 04-15-2008 Glad it turned out well! I've got a new iMac 2.4 24". The cursor flies all over the place. Tomorrow I am calling Apple and I expect they will swap out the motherboard like they did when my 1 GHz TiBook had the same problem. |
