home propane - pbarra1 - 04-14-2008 Is it bad to run out of propane? I have a 500 gallon tank that we use to make hot water, hot air and cooking. TIA I dont have any pilot lights on any equipment. Re: home propane - michaelb - 04-14-2008 they will need to come in and check and relight the pilot lights. It can be stinky at the bottom of the tank. It is better not to run out, but I don't think it is a big deal either. Re: home propane - RonT - 04-14-2008 Why would you want to let it run out? Do you really think propane is going to be cheaper when you reach the point where filling it up becomes an imperative? Re: home propane - pbarra1 - 04-14-2008 While the price does change with the season I just forget to order it. Two weeks ago I checked the gauge but each day forgot to call the office to order the stuff so now I am below 5%. I don't do automatic delivery because when they fill it its around $1000 and I like to control when I get billed for it (of course I never plan on forgetting to call and running out). Re: home propane - Racer X - 04-14-2008 why don't you send hankhill a PM and ask him. I think his wife Peggy is a Mac user. Re: home propane - Markintosh - 04-14-2008 FWIW...in my area...propane is way cheaper in spring and summer than in the winter. So waiting as long as possible is not such a bad idea. Re: home propane - Plumbking - 04-14-2008 Bad to run out? No Inconvenient, Yes 5% of a 500 gal tank is still a lot of gas. Unless you have a fancy water heater I bet it has a pilot light. In an emergency, and if you feel comfortable with it, you can switch propane tanks with your BBQ. Good Luck Re: home propane - Ombligo - 04-15-2008 I've run out when a computer switchover at the gas place dropped me from auto-refill. It isn't a big deal, they will refill and relight everything for you. Re: home propane - GGD - 04-15-2008 [quote Plumbking]Bad to run out?
