The 5-yr old is fascinated with volcanoes. Got recommendations? - deckeda - 06-26-2008 He made an illustration of one on an 8x11 sheet of paper and I swear, it was his best toy for a week. We've Googled a few images. I try to tell him of others, and about the concept of dormant volcanoes vs. active ones but all I hear is, "well, you know, volcanoes are in Hawaii and you don't want to get the hot lava on you ... I never made one as a kid but I wonder if one of those volcano science projects , juiced by a battery and flowing "lava" etc. would be something he and I could do. He loved the Reading Rainbow episode about volcanoes, which shows Levar Burton visiting Hawaii during an eruption, and watched it repeatedly. But perhaps your son has already seen it and that's what sparked his interest... |
