A mountain lion attacked a hiker in Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park early today after he went to pet one of the cougar's three cubs, Orange County authorities said.

The Foothills Ranch area man, whose identity was not immediately available, was taken to a hospital and treated for scratches on his arm, said Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

...

Today's attack happened about 8:30 a.m. a mile up the Borrego Trail. The hiker told authorities he came across a female lion and three cubs that he estimated were about 8 weeks old.

"He said they seemed so cute and cuddly and passive," Amormino said.

The hiker is one lucky city boy.

And he should sue Walt Disney for making him believe that all baby animals are cute and that their mothers actually like humans to come look at and pet their babies.

""What he did is not an advisable thing to do,""

Quite the understatement.

Something doesn't quite add up here. TWO dogs in the bedroom and neither K-9 heard or smelled the wild cat approaching?

Plus, who the hell leaves exterior doors OPEN, let alone unlocked at night?

To me, the whole story sounds suspicious.

Oh, and the first guy is an idiot!8-)

I am a volunteer dog walker at a local animal shelter. I was never told not to pet the newly born pups sharing a cage with their mom, but I sure as hell knew instinctly that would not be wise.
