Circus City has Canon G9 for $439 - pRICE cUBE - 08-25-2008 http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=190839&om_keycode=93 Use your CC gift cards before they go bankrupt ;-) Re: Circus City has Canon G9 for $439 - maco - 08-25-2008 I was thinking about getting one of these for my wife. Sometimes she doesn't like carting around her D70. Still reading up on this one. Trying to figure out if it is worth the $$$'s Re: Circus City has Canon G9 for $439 - pRICE cUBE - 08-25-2008 I suspect the price drop is due to it being replaced soon. Regardless of that, it is a good camera to own. The next version may add some niceties but at this point in time, it is diminishing returns to wait. Also they will probably up the megapixel and that will make for worse image quality. It's a shame that all these camera companies are in the mp race and not the image quality race. Re: Circus City has Canon G9 for $439 - richorlin - 08-26-2008 I've got one. I find it to be one of the most versatile P&S cameras on the market. The picture quality is superb despite having a high pixel-count on a small sensor. The Digic III processor is the best Canon has ever made. If you can get a G9 for any price under $450, grab it. Re: Circus City has Canon G9 for $439 - pRICE cUBE - 08-26-2008 The latest Canon roll outs have no G9 replacement yet. Maybe it won't be replaced until January. Re: Circus City has Canon G9 for $439 - dan steinberg - 08-26-2008 This good sale on the Canon brings up a question maybe someone can answer. Does anyone think this Canon that's on sale would be a nice upgrade from a Panasonic DMC-TZ3? Right now I have a Panasonic DMC-TZ3 that I bought about a year ago. I love everything about it (size and ergonomics, features, the big zoom) EXCEPT the actual picture quality. It has 2 main problems, low lights shots come out incredibly noisy, and even shots in normal light, with the noise reduction and algorithm the camera uses, every picture just has a certain "look" to it that is not floating my boat. I actually like the shots better from my old 2 megapixel digital elph (but don't like its smaller zoom and cubelike ergonomics). I would jump on this if anyone in the know thought the Canon had a lot of the good aspects of my Panasonic without the picture quality issues. I know they're different leagues of camera, and the Canon probably has a lot more manual controls. Thanks! Of course, the manufacturers don't mind, they want you to buy a DSLR. Yeah, that's the impression I started to get too, when I read some reviews of the G9, they were not crazy about its quality at higher ISO settings either. I have no problem spending the money on a DSLR but I fear that their bigger size will result in me actually carrying it around a lot less than my current Panasonic. Des anyone make a camera with a nice big sensor, that's actually closer to point and shoot size than DSLR body size? Or is that the classic compromise? This is crazy how all point and shoots have become all about megapixel counts, and not what the actual shots come out like, at least at higher .iso speeds. Thanks! When I was fed up with carrying my D100 around, I decided to get a nice point and shoot. Got the Panny FZ7. On paper it's got everything. I liked the camera and the Leica lens...it just took crappy pictures. AND YEAH...I had 2 megapixel shots from a Canon A60 that rocked.... Guess what I have lurking on Ebay for...yep...G9. I heard it's as good a P&S as you will find....so good luck... This is as close as it gets and you have to fork out $700 and the lens is a 28mm equivalent. by the time you add wide or tele adapters, if you can I am not sure, it gets to be bulky like a DSLR again. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Sigma/sigma_dp1.asp |
