Dumb memory allocating question. Where is it? - samintx - 09-01-2008

I have done the control I where it used to be in years past but have forgotten and can't find where to reset for a program. Dumb I know....but I have checked the manual, Ask Apple etc. and I guess I'm not using the right "search words"....

thanks....I know it is a simple answer.

There is no memory allocation in OS X. Memory is dynamically allocated. In the old Mac OS you could allot memory to specific applications, but that seemed to cause more problems than it solved.

D??N. My program needs more memory. I'll try it on the MacPro.....

Glad to know that was why I couln't find the Memory allocation button! It wasn't there.

What application is it?

If you have a relatively newer Mac (other than your Mac Pro), hard to imagine a program that is requiring more memory that your machine can't put out - despite you running some of the latest, most intensive (and expensive) professional applications.

Are you getting out of memory messages? Could be a sign of insufficient free space on the hard drive to open more paging file space for virtual memory.

No problem with HD space....I'm trying to duplicate DVD+R movies I have previously recorded....and I tried Toast 7,8,9 and get the same "out of memory message on my G4. (I have not upgraded the memory. 512)

Never had this problem before with movies. Could it be the Phillips format? or the +Rs themselves?

are you fooling me? wasn't that a program back in the 6.0/7.0 days? I'll look it up tho.
I remember there was a program with a similar name.

How much space do you have left on your startup drive?

Goobs of space. I tried copying the disk to my HD but it will not copy properly. I think it is the Phillips format causing the problemo. I thought I could just copy the TS_video file but it corrupts when I try to copy it to my HD or duplicate...for some reason. I guess again...the Phillips crazy 8s +R format.
