We took a quick ride up to the mountains today just to get away for a little while.

It's lovely. My sister in law and her friend are leaving Wednesday to stay near Robbinsville for three weeks. They invited me to come, but I didn't think I could make it all that way this year.
I need to move so I can have some new and interesting places to explore.

Traveling from Ohio to Edisto Beach or Florida I always try to take an extra day to drive the Parkway.
If you do the Parkway in the Autumn for the colorful leaves, go early in the season - the leaves turn early in the mountains. I think there is a website that will tell you peak season.
Spring is real nice too.
They close down parts of it in the winter for cross-country skiing.
There are campgrounds every 50 miles or so managed by the national Park Service. And lots of hiking trails. One of the best things east of the Mississippi.
You don't want to hurry.

Yes, and not one of them survived. Isn't that sad? I do genealogy and often find families were there was evidence of a number of children who didn't live beyond the age of five, and many of them died much younger. These families must have been tough; can you imagine the heartbreak?

Having grown up right around the parkway, I can say that I absolutely despise parkway traffic. they're leaves. they change colors. get over it. see that thing on the floor? its a gas pedal. use it.

The Blue Ridge Parkway wasn't designed to be an expressway like some would like it to
be. Folks take your time and enjoy it there's a state road that runs parallel to it most of the
time if the locals don't like it they take the state road and leave the federal one to us sightseers.
There's so much more to see than leaves.

come up to Seattle and explore my garage. Lots of interesting creatures, and piles of stuff to climb.
