VMWare 2.0 is out. - MGS_forgot_password - 09-16-2008

I just installed it on my work computer. I can't say if it is an improvement yet, but it hasn't broken anything.

I hope that they've improved it alot. I tried the RC a few months ago and it sucked. I couldn't get any of my USB devices to work.

I'm showing that it is still a Release Candidate, so I don't think that it has been released yet, or are you not talking about VMWare Server?

Ah...I see. VMWare FUSION 2.0 is released.

My favorite Windows XP SP2 VM setup that I've crafted (compresses down to a 220MB ZIP, starts up at 640MB the first time) DOESN'T work under 2.0 although it appears fine under 1.1.2. I tried upgrading the VM but that didn't fix it.

The error is a standard windows error that is meaningless to me:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\inf\biosinfo.inf
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

I have, of course, tried this to no avail, as well as a google for the answer.
The VM still works in the previous version of VMWare.

Help?

RUN AWAY! It's slow and buggy on my snow iMac 2.16GHz. And when you uninstall and reinstall 1.1.3 it won't work because your virtual machine has been updated and isn't compatible with the old version of Fusion. I backed up my old virtual machine so it was not that big of a deal to get back to 1.1.3, which is WAY faster and smoother.

But, VMWare 2.0 let's you virtualize OS X Server!
(And, as a result, at least for the time being, OS X non-server.)
