Your favorite mouse & why? - bhaveshp - 09-24-2008

I've been using a 5 button MS Optical mouse forever but lately it is getting flaky so I'm researching a replacement and would like to get something wireless.

My requirements are 5+ buttons and soft touch scroll wheel button. I map 2 buttons to back for browsing, and window close. I also use the wheel button to open links in new tabs.

Many current MS & other 'side scrolling' mice have really tough wheel mouse buttons requiring too much force to depress adding to RSI woes.

About a year back I tried the Logitech MX Revolution. While the shape & extra buttons were great, I found the wheel button only switched between free scroll and stepped scrolling, but would never actually cause a click. I still have that mouse somewhere but wasn't sure if it was either defective or intended behavior.

Anyway, any suggestions?

no real recommendation, since i use a wired razer diamondback 3G, although it has 7 buttons (and matching exactmat) -- http://www.razerzone.com/p-62-razer-diamondback-3g-gaming-mouse.aspx

but if you havent used a wireless mouse regularly -- when i tried them i hated the extra weight the batteries added -- made me feel like i had to "push" the mouse rather than just move it...

I'm very very happy with my Gear Head wireless five wheel mouse (from Micro Center for about $30) - it fits very well in my hand, much like the MS wireless five button it replaced, plus it recharges the batteries while parked overnight on it's base, which I really like! The scroll wheel is clickable and smooth, and it works well with my Intel iMac.

Contour Design Perfit Mouse; 3-button optical model with scrolling and rocker wheels. Totally excellent, and good for you, too.
