Will John McCain debate tomorrow night? - kanesa - 09-25-2008 I really think McCain has backed himself into a corner. If no deal is reached, will he go to the debate? How will he explain his actions? How long will he suspend his campaign if no deal is reached soon? Are people really falling for this political grandstanding? I think they are unfortunately. Re: Will John McCain debate tomorrow night? - $tevie - 09-25-2008 McCain is going to end up looking like an ass from this escapade. Re: Will John McCain debate tomorrow night? - Gutenberg - 09-25-2008 I don't think so. That's fine, though, Obama can hold a town hall-style Q&A and chat with Lehrer. I hope Lehrer switches the emphasis from foreign policy to the economy, or maybe discuss both subjects as time allows. I hope the questions are challenging. It's time for us to learn more about the men who want to run the country. Re: Will John McCain debate tomorrow night? - loveshine - 09-25-2008 Ralph Nadar and Ron Paul should just step in instead. Now that would be a cool debate. Re: Will John McCain debate tomorrow night? - Greg the dogsitter - 09-25-2008 loveshine wrote: Very, very much so. Re: Will John McCain debate tomorrow night? - PeterB - 09-25-2008 I think this is a no-win for McCain. If he doesn't show up for a debate, Obama can say that McCain apparently had better things to do. If he does show up, I don't think he'll do especially great-- he looks incredibly tired and ill lately. McCain was, I think, trying to show "leadership" by trying to "take charge" and put Obama in the "follower" position. Well, it may very well end up backfiring on him... Re: Will John McCain debate tomorrow night? - rgG - 09-26-2008 We will all know tomorrow, won't we. I'm going out on a limb here and predicting it will be the end of the world if the debate doesn't happen for say a week, yes the end of the world as we know it. Say your good-byes now, because it will all end tomorrow if the debate doesn't happen. You would think all the Obama supporters would be happy if McCain doesn't show up. Just think how much mileage they can get out of it. They can say he is afraid to debate, that he is too ill, old, sick, whatever, or all of the above. Then when the debate happens a short time later, assuming the world actually doesn't end, Obama can make the old, ill, sick, scared guy look really bad, and that will seal his election. What's the problem? Re: Will John McCain debate tomorrow night? - michaelb - 09-26-2008 I think McCain will show up for sure. Now a day or two later, it is clear he has bungled this stunt. The reports of him wandering around DC today, uninvolved with the negotiations, just reinforce the sense that he suspended his campaign without thinking through what that meant. I can't see how he can not show up for the presidential debate. Re: Will John McCain debate tomorrow night? - Gutenberg - 09-26-2008 The problem as I see it is that a guy who wants to be President of the United States should keep his appointments. He should not use this economic meltdown and all the misery it entails to patch his increasingly ragged image. He should not hold the public debate of the election hostage to his declining poll numbers. We have suffered for eight years under a President who had better things to do than run the U.S.--like running Iraq and Afghanistan, coveting Iran and gazing soulfully into the eyes of the Russian premier (and former head of the KGB ). We can't stand another one. Edit: to eliminate smiley that popped up out of nowhere. Re: Will John McCain debate tomorrow night? - PeterB - 09-26-2008 rgG wrote: rgG, your sarcasm is showing ;-) But seriously, I think the issue is that-- it's not a question of whether the world will end if the debate is held one week later. It's that this "emergency" seemed to suddenly pop up out of nowhere, which begs the question of whether this is really what the problem is. Simply put, it looks suspicious. In the back of my mind, it makes me wonder whether he has a health problem (one of the photos posted here awhile back almost makes it look like he's had a microstroke), whether there is some other skeleton in Palin's closet, or something else is going on that they do not want us to know about. |
