Here's what a Community Organizer actually does - swampy - 09-26-2008

He (Obama) first obtains a small city grant for a community project and promises there's more to come "when he gets elected to (state) Congress". The money is awarded to someone (Smith-an Obama campaign worker) who doesn't know what they hell they are doing and doesn't file the proper paperwork. The project goes belly up because Obama doesn't get (elected) to make the big money happen. Smith absconds with the "little" money and along the way makes a donation to Obama's campaign... yada, yada, yada.

A matter of $120,000 here, $120,000 there. Money down a rat hole. It's Obama's economic plan in a nut shell, learned on the job as a community organizer.

Well, Jesus was a Community Organizer, so it's all OK.

Of course you leave out the most important line:

"Madigan's office has notified Obama's presidential campaign of the probe, which was launched this week. But Obama's actions in awarding the money are not a focus of the investigation, Smith said."

So they aren't looking into Obama .....

Wasn't Mother Teresa a community organizer?

Wow. Even if that were true, and this is mostly heresay at this point, we can say this is a $120,000 rip-off.

Here is what someone involved in ripping off consumers ON A LARGE SCALE does:

http://www.azcentral.com/news/specials/mccain/articles/0301mccainbio-chapter7.html

My wife's family PERSONALLY lost over $10,000 because of this BS and she knew MANY other people who were affected who lost MUCH more than her. The right likes to point out when Obama personally gained from ONE deal. McCain profited HUGELY from this and many thousands of consumers lost millions.

If the story that you are pedaling is true, I would take this for my candidate ANY DAY OF THE YEAR over your candidate involved in helping Keating rip off tens of thousands of consumers, many of whom lost everything.

"Attorney General Lisa Madigan -- a Democrat who is supporting Obama's presidential bid -- is investigating "whether this charitable organization properly used its charitable assets, including the state funds it received," Cara Smith, Madigan's deputy chief of staff, said Wednesday.

In addition to the 2001 grant that Obama directed to the housing association as a "member initiative," the not-for-profit group got a separate $20,000 state grant in 2006.

Madigan's office has notified Obama's presidential campaign of the probe, which was launched this week. But Obama's actions in awarding the money are not a focus of the investigation, Smith said."

It sounds like the Smiths may have misappropriated the grant money.

It happened when Obama was in the state legislature, not when he was a community organizer.

Obama as a community organizer had nothing to do with the Smiths' organization.

Obama as a state senator arranged a grant that the Smiths apparently then misused.

It's unfortunate but it happens. It does not mean that Obama was in cahoots with the Smiths. Obama is not under investigation. Obama is not suspected of any wrongdoing.

I think if you looked up the disposition of grants in your own state you would find plenty of material for despair.

One of my favorite buttons says "Jesus Christ was a community organizer. Pontius Pilate was a governor."

I don't know why the McCain-Palin people are so dismissive of community organizers and what they do. If America really is to be a land of opportunity, it needs plenty of good community organizers to help people get hold of the opportunities.

The idea of using the term "community organizer" so often and so contempuously is to brand Obama as being another Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton which they hope will turn people off.

Re: Here's what a Community Organizer actually does - Gutenberg - 09-26-2008

Well, good Lord, they're aiming in the wrong direction. Jackson and Sharpton aren't community organizers. They're Pentecostal preachers! Community organizers wear khakis from the thrift store, not $5,000 suits.

"A Thousand Points of Light" wasn't that George Bush Senior's request of America,
