Apple Care for Mac Mini? - ajakeski - 09-30-2008

Are there any issues with the Mac Mini's that would make it worth buying AppleCare for it? I have a 1.83 ghz intel one.

Haven't heard of too many problems with the Mini.

If it was your primary computer; I would probably buy it unless you are planning on replacing it soon.

Applecare for the Mini can be purchased off eBay for $70.

not too many issues but worth it if you find it for $70.

I've owned many Macs & the Mini is right up there at the top as far as reliability is concerned. But I agree, if you can grab Apple Care for $70, why not?

I have always considered AppleCare for desktops optional.

The only trouble with the Mac Minis, both the Intel version, and the G4 PPC version, was that I have had several hard drives fail and go belly up. It happened more with the G4 version, however. Maybe 7 failures so far, out of 25 or so machines I've got.

Other than that, they're great. Hard drives are easy to swap in-and-out.

Bought Applecare for our Mini on ebay and saved shipping charges by having the seller email me the code (this idea came from someone on the forum).

This worked out perfectly and though I haven't had problems with the Mini I'm happy to have the insurance for a very reduced cost.

Also, if I want to sell the Mini, it's probably worth a bit more with existing applecare, FWIW.

It just isn't just for HardWare, it also covers any Apple OSX/SoftWare questions.

I've bought it for all my Macs off ebay.
Got it for my 1.83 C2D Mini back in March for $45. http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,449525,449528#msg-449528

I bought it for both my C2D minis since my G4 mini died an early death (sudden shutdowns) and G4 minis used are way too expensive and motherboards are quite pricey too.

Got one Applecare for $50 early in the year and had to settle for $70 not too long ago.
