Am trying to read these paragraphs out loud to my wife, but I keep choking up... - Greg the dogsitter - 10-19-2008

So here you go..., from the Chicago Tribune's endorsement of Barack Obama for President of the United States:

"Obama is deeply grounded in the best aspirations of this country, and we need to return to those aspirations. He has had the character and the will to achieve great things despite the obstacles that he faced as an unprivileged black man in the U.S.

He has risen with his honor, grace and civility intact. He has the intelligence to understand the grave economic and national security risks that face us, to listen to good advice and make careful decisions."

It's all pretty good, except the "unprivileged" part.

Sorry Karsen. "Privileged" is being a half-assed Navy pilot & general screw-up who kept his flying career after dumping a couple of expensive airplanes in the drink by virtue of having a father and grandfather who were both Admirals.

I dunno, I kind of agree with Karsen here, they could have left that word out.

Hmm.. "unprivileged" - granny a bank VP. Both parents went to college. Mammy did a PhD. I guess a lot of black, yellow, red, pinky-beige Americans and Europeans and Asian would like to be underprivileged in that way...

Did anyone say McCain wasn't privileged?

If you think Obama is unprivileged you must come from pretty nice pedigree yourself. Nothing wrong with that, it's all about perspective I guess.

How people use or abuse those privileges is a valid issue, one that McCain and Bush don't fare quite so well on.

Can one be educated without being privileged?

Obama is many things, but was never underpriviledged. He is also as very much an elitist.

He is educated and priviledged,

How did this thread become about McCain.....as Greg would say, should be another thread topic...
