Dead snake at my back door - DaviDC. - 10-22-2008 It looks like one of the yard cats left me a present this morning. A non poisonous snake, about a foot long was laying at my back door. I was honored that a cat thought highly enough of me to do this, but saddened that such a young snake died as a result. Cats really are destructive creatures. Re: Dead snake at my back door - ztirffritz - 10-22-2008 They do what they do and they do it well. Re: Dead snake at my back door - Acer - 10-22-2008 Maybe it's been dumped by the local school... Re: Dead snake at my back door - OWC Jamie - 10-22-2008 I don't recommend training them to retrieve skunks. Sounds like narrowly defined hype for effect. Humans are far more destructive and harm a much broader range of living things. Cats are efficient predators, certainly. I don't believe in allowing domestic pet cats to roam outdoors for that reason as well as the obvious ones related to the pet's length of life. Re: Dead snake at my back door - voodoopenguin - 10-22-2008 Here in the UK the RSPB has found that domestic cats are the biggest threat to the wild bird population than the next few categories put together which includes natural predators and habitat threat. Re: Dead snake at my back door - Acer - 10-22-2008 Keep your cat indoors...good for the critters and for the kitty: http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/our_pets_for_life_program/cat_behavior_tip_sheets/your_cat_indoors_or_out.html Re: Dead snake at my back door - Stephanie - 10-22-2008 I too believe in "cats indoors" - not only that but all domestic pets should be kept strictly on the owner's property (dogs, cats, other). Sorry to hear about the dead snake - one can only hope he didn't suffer for long. And for what it's worth, cats have been listed as one of the 100 most invasive species around the world.
