Disk Utility doesn't see it.
It makes a cyclic noise vaguely akin to the tonearm of a manual turntable "playing" the end groove of an LP, over and over and over...
Has anybody had to return an item to Dell?

better that it die now than after you put data on it!
you'll probably have to speak with people halfway around the world but their return system is actually pretty nice.

Haven't unpacked mine completely. Have to get through the last magazine of the month and then I'll install it.
I am wondering if the failure rate is higher with larger capacity drives. I had a Samsung F1 drive bite the dust right after installing it (the replacement drive has been working just fine).
First time in 16 years of computing. Maybe I was lucky all those years.

It's a brand new drive; Dell should replace it with another brabnd new drive. If you return it to Seagate you will likely get a "recertified" drive in return.

Yeah, drive failures happen.
I would opt for one from a different batch, could be several failures all from the same mistake.
