I don't watch any TV commercials (ReplayTV and DVD only), and there are just a few hyperbole-filled commercials on the radio I listen to. All political flyers appearing in my mailbox hit the recycling bin before the table. It seems obvious to me that ALL political advertisements should be disregarded (this includes Fox news and Daily Kos, both of which are continuing political advertisements). I'm sure I'm not alone.
My question is...who is it that is influenced by these ridiculous bits of propaganda? Some of you are I'm sure, otherwise elections wouldn't be largely determined by the number of advertisements that each side can afford. Who are these folks who are fooled by this garbage. I don't think I know any...or perhaps I'm wrong.

I've been intrigued enough by claims in political ads that I've gone online to research their allegations.
I think that's "influence."
I've never had an opinion directly changed by an ad, although cumulatively the quality of the McCain attack ads has lessened my respect for him.
I wasn't going to vote for him anyway, but the ads made me feel more confident that I made the right choice.

Me not.
Me only watch sports and DVDs, only listen Howard Stern on Sirius or NPR, no ads.
Me only vote 'no' on props anyhow, so when see commercials me tune out completely.

the technobobs on this forum probably see few ads. we're on the net or Tivo the programs we're interested in. however, a large majority of the american population plops down in front of the television every day for many hours and watch in real time. they are the ones who see the ads. some are discerning voters. sadly, too many are not.

So if you're correct graylocks, that means that momentous decisions are decided by complete boobs. No wonder we're in a state of endless war, fear and economic meltdown.

i stand in long lines at walmart and i over hear lots of conversations. it's a wonder we've survived as long as we have.

All of the recent political TV ads lately had me wondering the following the other day.
Can you make a list of products that you purchased due to a TV ad that you saw for it? My list came up empty. There are some products with TV ads that I do purchase (like Macs), but the buying decision isn't because of the TV ad.

I am pretty much never swayed positively by an ad, political or otherwise, unless it's merely introducing me to a product I didn't know about before.
I am frequently swayed negatively by an ad, for example a political attack ad, against whoever is responsible for it. But the same goes for non-political ads-- I feel less positively about Apple on the heels of the "I'm a Mac" ads for example-- the Mac guy is smug and superior and I end up wanting to go to bat for the PC guy.

When I was a kid, I asked for a lot of toys and cereals after seeing the items on a commercial. Stretch Armstrong, Spider-Man, Transformers, Crunch Berries...
Perhaps people swayed by political ads should be presumptively non compus mentis due to developmental dysfunction.
