Hillary Takes the Job - Doc - 11-21-2008

This is very disappointing. She owes the people of New York big time and she made a promise when she lost the nomination.

Hillary Rodham Clinton has decided to give up her Senate seat and accept the position of secretary of state, making her the public face around the world for the administration of the man who beat her for the Democratic presidential nomination, two confidants said Friday.

Mrs. Clinton came to her decision after additional discussion with President-elect Barack Obama about the nature of her role and his plans for foreign policy, said one of the confidants, who insisted on anonymity to discuss the situation. Mr. Obama’s office told reporters Thursday that the nomination is “on track” but Clinton associates only confirmed Friday afternoon that she has decided.

“She’s ready,” said the confidant. Mrs. Clinton was reassured after talking again with Mr. Obama because their first meeting in Chicago last week “was so general,” the confidant said. The purpose of the follow-up talk, he added, was not to extract particular concessions but “just getting comfortable” with the idea of working together.

A second Clinton associate confirmed that her camp believes they have a done deal. Senior Obama advisers said Friday morning that the offer had not been formally accepted and no announcement will be made until after Thanksgiving. But they said they were convinced that the nascent alliance was now ready to be sealed.

Well, if it's true, then more power to her. Perhaps Nydia Velazquez will get the nod to replace her.
But I know Jerrold Nadler wants if badly and he'd be a good Senator. Andrew Cuomo has Washington experience and could hold the seat I would think. Kirsten Gillibrand would be a great pick. Hillary however, owes herself first.

Mitt Romney made a commitment to be their governor and the people of Massachusetts were most relieved to see him break that promise; maybe New Yorkers will come to feel the same way about Ms. Clinton.

She'll no longer be a viable candidate in four or especially eight years, that and the fact she has international recognition which delivers clout makes her a good choice for SoS.

The family income will take a big hit.

edit: because it's now a compulsion.

Stay tuned and watch that campaign debt disappear.

Apparently the game afoot was Obama's desire to remove a potential opponent from the four-year horizon. A smart move on his part.

Though there is nothing really stopping her from running then except for executive privileged loyalties. I think her running days are over. It's all on Chelsea now.

Cnn says that her aide says that she says that she's not decided just yet. So say's she.

Suckers!! I never understood what NYers saw in her. Clearly she saw you folks as a convenient stepping stone.

The Senate-as-stepping stone was my first impression way back when as well. But SoS will be the best thing for her career.

It's the Republican brain trust going back to basics.
